My Scopes

It's continually amazing to me what can be done with quite a modest telescope, given modern camera technology and software. Most of the images here were taken with the white scope on the left, a 70mm Stellarvue refractor, while my new "big gun" -- still a small scope by observatory standards! -- is an 8" Ritchey-Chrètien reflector. The CSN CD is just for scale.

The black fabric and frame, plus the wood cabinet below it, belong to my 12" Dobsonian reflector, which is not suitable for astrophotography but is one hella instrument for visual astronomy! I've used it for outreach programs, and a perennial favorite is the gasp as someone sees Saturn's rings for the first time.

I built an autofocuser rig for the Stellarvue, which is the hodgepodge of gear and tape atop its back end. One (hopefully better looking) is in the works for the Astro-Tech AT8RC as well.
