Thor's Helmet, NGC 2359, HOO/RGB

I have always loved images of Thor's Helmet, one of the most ethereally beautiful targets in the sky for me. Now I have one!

Usually I'm pretty scrupulous about listing each session, number of subs for each filter, etc., but this one really got away from me. This image took 10 nights of acquisition, 79 600" Ha and OIII subs, and 380 30" RGB subs. So total integration time was about 16 hours. I started out with some OSC subs from my new Player One Uranus-C but those didn't make it into the final result.

What made this practical/possible for me was a Telegizmos cover I got for my mount and 8" scope so that I could just leave them set up in the back yard. I still had to check polar alignment, since even with the little 3D-printed feet I made, the tripod legs sank into the thawing and freezing ground. I destroyed two computers -- one old laptop and one Raspberry Pi -- before I found a way to reliably weatherproof the electronics as well.
